NEWS: break_fold shares new single, ‘Pet’

break_fold is the ambient electronic project of producer Tim Hann. Raised in the North-East of England and now based in Bingley, West Yorkshire, Hann first released his glitch-charged sound in 2017 with his debut album 27_05_17 – 21_01_18 via boutique label analog horizons.

Following on from break_fold’s 2025 Planner EP his new single ‘Pet’ arrives through analog horizons via Launchpad+ and EMI North. As with Planner, ‘Pet’ is the latest in a series of break_fold tracks that takes its title from one of the many colloquialisms that were familiar to Hann during his upbringing in the port town of Hartlepool in County Durham.

Speaking about the new single, Tim Hann says: “The writing and production of Pet all revolved around the creation of the kick drum. ‘Pet’ was written as a homage to Mimi Parker from the band Low who sadly died a few years ago. I loved the production ‘Double Negative’ by B.J. Burton, on their second to last album. I don’t exactly know the tricks used on their album to create such wonderful soundscapes, this is my attempt, which hopefully is a respectful nod to Low, Mimi and B.J. Burton.”

‘Pet’ showcases Tim Hann’s “unique ability to seamlessly weave together complex electronic textures; arpeggiated synths, pulsating basslines, and heavily-distorted percussive elements combine to stunning effect, resulting in a broodingly beautiful piece of experimental ambient synthesis.”
