Video of the Week #305: Lucy Kitchen – ‘In My Corner’

Lucy Kitchen unveils the lyric video for her new single ‘In My Corner’ today, released through Bohemia Rose Records and Make My Day Records.

As we move into Autumn, ‘In My Corner‘ is a moving soundtrack decorated in delicate banjo and slide guitar, Kitchen’s evocative vocals, echoing the warmth and melancholy of the classic Laurel Canyon sound. Swelling into an emotive meditation on loss, grief and heartbreak, elements of country and Joni Mitchell seaping through this wonderfully drawn song.

“I miss you in my corner, telling me I’m the one,” Lucy sings, offering a intimate glimpse into the loss of her husband Stephen to cancer, and with him, the quiet strength of her biggest champion. Yet the song doesn’t dwell solely in grief, but is also a testament to resilience: a meditation on reclaiming agency and choosing how to navigate and rebuild life alongside heartbreak.

Lucy Kitchen: “We used to sit up and have these big life/death chats as we knew he didn’t have long to live at a certain point. I remember one night having a really big one about what I was going to do and me chucking out all these slightly crazy ideas and him just saying that he wanted me to really live my life and do whatever I wanted. A lot of this song comes out of that and has become one of my favourite tracks on the album.”

Lucy Kitchen is a singer-songwriter based in Romsey, Hampshire. Her songs explore profound concepts of grief and loss, drawing inspiration from lyrical poets, nature, the seasons and the art of creating beauty out of difficulty.

With two previous albums released on her own Bohemia Rose Records, 2014 debut offering ‘Waking’ and the sophomore ‘Sun To My Moon’ in 2017, Lucy has also made recent contributions to RE:WARM Records’ ‘Folk Funk & Trippy Troubadours Vol. 2’ and ‘Sounds of Southampton Vol. 3’, She released ‘The Stabal Sessions’ EP in 2023, a sonic tapestry of melancholic melodies and personal storytelling.

Looking ahead, Lucy Kitchen is preparing to tour the UK and Europe while working on her highly anticipated new album, scheduled for release in early 2026. She is also completing her first poetry collection, further showcasing her talents as a lyrical storyteller.
