Cardiff-based artist Ivan Moult has new album Stood Out In The Storm due in a couple of months and shares the classy ‘Did You Think That I Was Lost?’ as an intriguing taster.
Simultaneously laid back and emotionally intense, the new song showcases Ivan’s distinctive vocal style with folk and flared jeans blues. Upon hearing the song on Huw Stephens‘ 6 Music‘s Roundtable earlier this month, Lava L Rue said ‘It’s really beautiful’, Billy Nomates commented ‘Really got me for a second‘ with Chris Baio of Vampire Weekend adding ‘The voice is beautiful’.
Ivan explains of Did You Think That I Was Lost?: “The song is a reflection on the emotional paths instinctively taken when you feel under pressure, and in the aftermath, about how we mend bridges and rekindle love and affection. The sound is late evening, woozy admittance and reconciliation. Soulful clipped beats and tremolo wobbles underneath as questions are asked, explanations given and the song builds towards clutches and releases of remorseful electric guitar riffs in psychedelic octaves.”
As with his previous records, Ivan wrote, played, recorded and mixed the album at his Cardiff home studio.
Throughout his career Ivan has won support from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Wales and KLOF (Formerly Folk Radio UK), earned festival slots at Cornbury Festival, Festival of Voice and Sŵn, and shared stages with the likes of This Is The Kit, Becca Mancari and Willy Mason.
Stood Out In The Storm is released on 7 November via Bubblewrap Records.
