Hailing from the rugged meeting point of Galway, Connemara and the Wild Atlantic, In Athens release their debut single ‘Or Anything’ on Blowtorch Records. Their soundscapes reflect the majestic beauty, raw power and shimmering tranquillity of their surroundings.
“There’s nostalgia in what we do, for sure – 90s alternative tones, a bit of shoegaze sprinkled here and there – but it’s not about looking back. We’re interested in contrast. Warmth and detachment. Collapse and control. We like when things feel familiar yet slightly off, in the same way that a vivid, lucid dream can sometimes feel”
In Athens channel their powerful blend of fuzzy post-gaze nostalgia and razor-sharp post-punk energy into their debut single ‘Or Anything’. Recorded and produced at Darklands Audio Recording Studio by Dan Doherty (Fontaines DC, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Hope Sandoval), the track features expansive, intimate guitars, driving bass, hypnotic drums and hazy, 90s-inspired vocals. ‘Or Anything’ is enthralling, with a quality which holds the listeners attention throughout, the guitars captivating and the vocals dripping with a delicious layer of shoe gazey intensity.
‘Or Anything’ is the debut single from the bands upcoming EP MIRRORISM which will be released on 12” Vinyl through Blowtorch Records in October 2025, with an Irish tour to follow.
