NEWS: Joyeria shares ‘I Don’t Know, Who Cares?’

Joyeria has just released ‘I don’t know, who cares?‘ marking the start of an exciting new chapter, with more music due later this year. Joyeria’s name deserves to be held in as high esteem as John Grant and Father John Misty. There’s no one else quite like him. From Canada via London, Joyeria has charted his career in invisible ink. Always a shape shifter, never a genre chaser, he’s quit bands when their buzz was the buzziest and insisted on building his backstory entirely with gaps in the narrative. His sets are smart, dark, edgy, wild, raw, lavish bursting with warmth, pathos and bursts of frenetic energy. With witty  existential tracks pondering the absurdity of life, every track demands a replay. With cathartic, vampiric screams and baritone vocals, his 360 degree sonic range is laced with grunge, Americana and free jazz.

His latest track takes that to another level, spearing mundanity with wit. It’s laced with satirical humour and an experimental edge. With existential melancholia, dark resonant vocals, warm harmonies, evocative polyphonic riffs and serrated edges Joyeria, ‘Tells it like it is’ highlighting the absurd, spurious norms of modern life, with dark wit and quiet melancholic charm. The track will be performed at the Shacklewell Arms in London on 5th August and 29th August for ‘Eat Your Own Ears Recommends’ and ‘Speedy Wunder x Label Mates’ nights.

On the track, Joy says: “There’s that poem by Hemingway, the short one about the baby’s shoes. I won’t repeat it here because I don’t think it’s very good but it’s also the kind of nonsense that seems to resonate with people… “Oh his brilliant simplicity”. God dammit.  Well… I have one for you.

And in one fewer words. A better use of all our time than imagining the misery of orbiting the drain. Sleep is another one. God I love sleep.  I’m currently on the phone with the post office to see if a parcel will be delivered today or if I can stay in bed and participate in my existential olympiad. It’s a kindness to ask how life’s going. It is. I know that. But it makes me think of that damn Hemingway poem trying to think of an answer. How am I doing? I don’t know, who cares.”

Joyeria created one of the EPs of the year with  FIM (Fuck I Missed) EP which was released in October 2022 to rave reviews, followed by the vinyl drop in January 2023 and live shows in support of Independent Venue Week with Joyeria’s singles on heavy rotation on radio stations across the globe from America to Spain, Italy to Canada, Ireland’s RTE 2XM to BBC Introducing and 6 Music. He is signed to cult label Speedy Wunderground, co-founded by  multi award winning producer Dan Carey who produced and performed on his debut EP, FIM. ‘

He was handpicked and shortlisted for the Green Man Rising competition and smashed his sets at the Great Escape and Rockaway beach festivals and many more. Lyrics like “I take everything personally, especially the weather,” could easily come from an Oscar Wilde play. His lyrics reflect every aspect of the modern human condition with soundscapes that capturing lightening in a bottle. It’s exactly what the world needs right now-  a sonic (black) mirror.

GIITTV chose Joyeria as one of our our Sounds of the Year in 2024 and we can’t wait to hear what he does next.
