To mark Wales women’s football team reaching UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, a special Wales–Switzerland gig will take place in the Swiss city of Lucerne following the match against the Netherlands this Saturday (5 July).
Featuring double Welsh Music Prize-winners Adwaith, Welsh/Jamaican reggae artist Aleighcia Scott and DJ Molly Palmer along with Swiss artists Giulia Dabala and DJ Nat Shizaru, the event is curated by Merched yn Gwneud Miwsig (Women Making Music) and celebrates women’s creativity, connection and culture both on and off the pitch.
Adwaith’s new single ‘Aros Am Y Chwiban‘ (Waiting for the Whistle) is the official BBC Radio Cymru Euro 2025 anthem in support of the Wales Women’s team.
‘We wanted to create something instantly infectious, something that belongs on a FIFA soundtrack,’ the band said. ‘Inspiration comes from bands like Primal Scream and Happy Mondays. We wanted to create a soundscape as if you’re in a football stadium, full of celebration and positivity. ‘Aros Am Y Chwiban’ is a song that celebrates the incredible success of the Welsh women’s team getting into the Euros. It transcends beyond the pitch, celebrating how rewarding it is to be a part of a team and to be working in unity.’
‘We feel very honoured to be representing Cymru in Switzerland for the Women’s Euros this year. To be a part of a historic moment, however small our part may be, is such a privilege and we can’t wait to celebrate our language, our culture and our country with with audiences from across Europe in Lucerne.‘
‘Aros Am Y Chwiban’ was recorded at the newly launched CWRW Studios, located inside the band hometown venue CWRW in Carmarthen. It was not only their first time recording in the space, but also their first studio session since the release of Adwaith’s wonderfully ambitious double album SOLAS, released via Libertino in the opening weeks of 2025.
Aleighcia Scott’s ground-breaking number one iTunes Reggae Chart hit this spring ‘Dod o’r Galon‘ was the first Welsh reggae song to top the charts, with June’s single ‘Diolch’ a heartfelt tribute to a beloved family member. ‘This song is really special for me,‘ says Aleighcia of her new song. ‘It’s written about a very loved and missed family member who I wanted to celebrate, and for anyone else who wants to do the same.‘

Aleighcia adds, ‘being part of this moment for Wales and bringing what we’re about as a nation to a global audience, means the world. When Wales goes international, we take the whole country with us – the music, the culture, the people. I’m also proud to be invited to share the stage with Swiss female artists and I’m pleased to be working with agencies supporting women to make music in Wales and in Switzerland.’
A familiar face and voice on both TV and radio, Aleighcia presents on BBC Radio Wales and across Welsh-language broadcasters, bringing music, culture and pride to audiences across the nation. She performed on the Urdd’s official Euro 2025 anthem, ‘Ymlaen’ and her album Windrush Baby was a finalist for the Welsh Music Prize 2024.
Rounding off the Welsh line-up is BBC Radio Wales’ DJ Molly Palmer. She’s known for her genre-spanning, bilingual sets and electric live performances. Originally from the Welsh Valleys of South Wales, she also presents on BBC Radio Wales and S4C, spotlighting new talent and championing Welsh music, language and culture at home and abroad.
‘This is such a meaningful moment, not just for football, but for showing how music, identity and culture are all connected as well discovering the Music of the women of Switzerland,’ says Molly. ‘As a bilingual DJ and presenter, I care deeply about spotlighting talent from Wales, especially women shaping the cultural landscape in their own way. Taking that spirit to Lucerne feels powerful, and I’m proud to be part of it.‘
