NEWS: Brògeal release new single, ‘Vicar Street Days’

Brògeal (pronounced Bro-gale) have released their latest single ‘Vicar Street Days’, out now on Play It Again Sam. It’s a track tinged with nostalgia and memories of being young back home in Falkirk. The five-piece pay homage to their early shows in their hometown where they quickly made a name for themselves with their raucous, incendiary performances. The song celebrates those times whilst acknowledging the bittersweet feeling of moving on. It was produced by Richie Kennedy (Cardinals, Cliffords, RIDE).

On the track the band say:
“We used to frequent a bar on Vicar Street called Rialto where Daniel worked and Aidan did deliveries. The rest of the band would come down for free pints and pizza and we made it our own social club. This is when we started our own club night called Vicar Street Social where “feedback and debauchery” went on through the night. The track reminisces on drink and drug fuelled youth where we met plenty of characters and had an abundance of ramshackle and fun. The track is full of tongue in cheek lyrics about the mischief that we got up to down Vicar Street; “the ceiling got sticky with an aura of hell and the queue for the toilets like a carousel but as I look back now on that reckless young haze, I’ll never forget the Vicar Street Days”.

‘Vicar Street Days’ follows previous release ’Friday On My Mind’, the first single from the band since signing with Play It Again Sam. They recently completed a whirlwind tour of the UK which saw them headline the Dublin Castle in London and a triumphant sold-out SWG3 in Glasgow.

From small-town Falkirk in central Scotland the folk-punk-indie-pop five-piece have big ideas, with a reputation as one of the best live bands in Britain, their communal, sing-along, delirious anthems igniting mosh-pit madness throughout the UK, Ireland and beyond. Vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Daniel Harkins shares:

“The thing about our music is that it transcends all age groups. You’ve got 14-year-old boys with their mums, they’re all going mental, you’ve got old punks, middle-aged women, young adults, old people, everybody’s digging it, you know? There’s something for everybody because you’ve got your folky influences, The Pogues, with this indie edge and pop sensibilities.”
