Hot Chip - Over And Over

Hot Chip have always appealed to me, simply because I loved the sight of a short, nerdy man in glasses exclaiming "down with Prince!". But their actual music did little to distinguish them from the other geeks seeking out The Artist's crown. But forget that, because "Over And Over" is the sound of a band who've done their homework and returned with a classic comeback single. A love letter to repetitive beats that go "over and over, like a monkey with a miniature cymbal", it's an ultra-danceable, infectious tune, and the funkiest indie track since LCD Soundsystem started making waves. At the line "the joy of repetition really is in you", you'll want to compliment them back, as they've made full use of retro synths and repetitive basslines to propel the track. Thanks to MTV2 taking a liking to its cool, green-screen-aided video, this should become a well-deserved indie-dance hit. Cherish it because, at this rate, they'll soon change their name to an unpronounceable squiggle and become Jehovah's Witnesses.
