Toro Y Moi - Blessa

Toro Y Moi is the side project of Chazwick Bundick, from The Heist. However, his side project is quickly becoming the feature as his solo popularity slowly rises. The sound he makes is catching onto the dreamy lo-fi wave that seems very popular at the moment, and the sound of single, 'Blessa' could easily be compared to solo work by Animal Collective frontman, Panda Bear. It's very whimsical, very hazy, and the melodies are unclear, but in some ways it's successful.

Layers of synth, 'woohs', and casual vocals top an upbeat rhythm that produces a very relaxing sound. It's very 'nice' and upbeat, but the structure of the song is very strange, and it lacks the catchiness required to pull such a gentle track to the realms of widespread success. Rising and looping guitar sounds throw the song off balance, giving a strange sensation as waves of synth almost smother the vocals. The song remains a chilled out tune, but lacks something that makes it worthy of a single. If you like the style of the production however, be sure to check his previous single 'Talamak', which frankly pulls it off much better.
