Pink Mountaintops, Japandroids, The Mountain Goats, Blakroc, Mat Riviere - GIITTV's Mixtapes for 09
The singles chart has always been unrepresentative of a week in music let alone a year. Subject to the fickle fads, and promotional campaigns of a hysterical, celebrity driven Television and media. Even in the inclusion of download sales hasn't halted the slide in quality, topped off by the fact that its all presented by Reggie and Fearne two of the biggest gob shite, passionless, none entities on Radio One.
The final nail in this year's coffin has come in the form of the X factor domination of the top five every contestant, former contestant, guest performer and even the bleeding Judges have got in on the act, cluttering up the top five with more (JLS apart) drivel. So rather than pick our singles of the year, we here at GIITTV decided to make our own mixes of some of our songs of 2009. You know a bit like those mix tapes you used to make when you were a kid, they contain some massive commercial hits, some lesser known gems and some cult classics that have tickled our ears in this last year. Only using modern sites like Spotify and Soundcloud et al, this time they are shorn of the bad editing offa the radio that always mucked up your play list. Namely we believe they are a more of a genuine reflection of the wide variety of music that has been released in the last calendar year. Enjoy!
