The Parlotones - Beautiful
Matt Churchill 12/01/2008
South Africa's shiniest export since a big bag full of diamonds, The Parlotones are set to leap into your life with their indie-twinged rock and roll.
The band have won three awards at the South African equivalent of the Brits, and it is only a matter of time before they become a force to be reckoned with in the UK.
With a hatful of albums already in the bag, the band are set to launch their assault on the UK with Beautiful, a song as far away from Blunty's effort as a Durban summer is from the Arctic in mid winter. Soaring vocals and a brilliantly contructed chorus are the hook in this song, the sort of track that could easily have been released in Britpop's pomp.
It is, thankfully, not an obvious pastiche of this period, but an absorption of the time that has been re-sued in a 21st century stylee to create a brilliant piece of rock-pop.
