Autons - Snakes/Ice Major
Benjamin Short 12/06/2006
“Hey scenesters, hey hey scenesters...” Listen up, because there are some things you need to know about Autons. Having formed after meeting at a Doctor Who audition (hence the name), the band have now signed to Big Badger Recordings, an offshoot of Cambridge's notorious R*E*P*E*A*T label. MTV and Radio One are swarming all over this band like flies around shit. And if that's not enough to grab your attention, they have some pretty fine tunes, too. On 'Snakes', intricate sci-fi synthesisers resound urgently, and Vocalist Dan Auton's petulant Lydonesque snarl is truly venomous. B-side 'Ice Major' sounds worryingly similar to Electric Six's 'Dance Commander' at times, but is nonetheless fantastic. Like Hot Chip, Autons are an irritatingly infectious band to be enjoyed over and over and over again.
