Prefuse 73 - Surrounded By Silence
Imagine The Wu Tang Clan joining forces with Dr Dre and Roots Manuva, and then giving the results to DJ Shadow to work his genius on. Well stop just imagining, 'cos it's been made a reality by Prefuse73. 'Surrounded By Silence' is an epic rollercoaster ride through 21 tracks of genre skipping, barrier breaking and generally amazing bass heavy grooves; peppered with outstanding collaborations (Ghostface of the aforementioned Wu Tang, does in fact make an appearance on the futuristic hip hop, funk fest of 'Hide Ya Face', and elsewhere Pedro guests on the stuttering trip hop, sample heavy 'Gratis'). On listening to this you'll be astonished at how ambient sounds wash through fuzzy electronics on 'It's Crowded' and how scratchy beats and digital squelches can be so damn infectious on 'I've Said All I Needed To Say About Them'. Simply Stunning.
