Crystal Castles - Courtship Dating

One of the tips for 2008 on this very website, Crystal Castles lead in to their self-titled debut album with a single which purportedly is a love song about taxidermy. 'Courtship Dating' is a slight departure from previous releases being a gentler take on their usual electro-pop fare sounding, rather aptly, as if some of the life has been drained out of the track.
Darkly edged beats and fizzy melodic synths create a subdued yet catchy track onto which layers of skittish noises and effects dance around. Hidden deep in the mix, singer Alice's distorted vocals try to pull you in further still. The only issue is that Crystal Castles risk being too much a band of the moment; their sound fits nicely in which current trends but how long till everyone gets bored with all the bleeps? Luckily for them they are good at what they do and 'Courtship Dating' is a fine example of their craft.
